★『Three Gorges Dam』the largest water conservancy project ever undertaken by man and it has been a dream for several generations of Chinese people. The construction of the dam formally began in 1994. The body of the dam was completed in 2003, and the whole construction will be competed in 2009. It will be 2,335 meters long, 185 meters high, 18 meters wide on the top and 130 meters wide at the bottom. Since Sep 1st, 2005, the first 1000 tourists each day get access to the top of the dam and enjoy different kinds of photo opportunities.

Day 02 |
| → Yichang - Three Gorges Dam - Xiling Xia |
After breakfast, go up on deck, look the gorge's narrow channel, its rocky banks looming either side in the early morning mist. In the afternoon, you will go through the third of the gorges, Wuxia or Shaman's Gorge. High up on its banking cliff-faces, you will observe another of the Yangzi River's curiosities. The local Ba people, one of China's ethnic minorities, centuries ago buried their dead in long wooden coffins pegged to the gorges' sheer rock-faces. Though many have now been removed to local museums, seeing one or two coffins precariously pinned to the rock, you may well wonder how the coffins were pegged there in the first place. To this day art historians are perplexed by this issue.

Day 03 |
| → Shennong Stream - Chutanxia - Wuxia |
After breakfast, Shennong Stream is another tributary of the Yangtze River, and its fast-flowing, crystal clear water runs southwards through deep gorges. The stream races past large and small karst caves, flocks of swallows, sheer cliffs, deep gorges, waterfalls, three-colored springs, rapids, the ancient plank path, a suspended coffin in the cliff, groups of ancient tombs and marvelous karst formations.

Day 04 |
After breakfast, Sailing downstream, you will soon arrive at Shibaozhai, a red, multi-storied temple built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-96). The addition of a wooden staircase has made a substantial improvement on the original means of ascending this cliff-face temple - a few hundred years ago, pilgrims only had an iron chain to help them proceed up the sheer rock-face. Fengdu is where the devil lives, according to Chinese legend. They say that spirits go to heaven, and evil goes to Fengdu. The town is overlooked by Ming Shan Hill, home of Tianzi, the King of the Dead. The whole place has an eerie feel to it with deserted streets, tower blocks, empty shops and banks. The only people here are those who make a living from visiting cruise boats.

•Upstream or downstream?
Chinese think downstream represents plain sailing, so more people prefer downstream, but there are mixed blessing in both,
Advantage of Downstream:
1. Fast speed, downstream, 28-30 / hour, shorter time (4 days).
2. No sailing during night time, you can enjoy the entertainment and parties on the cruise. (coz usually the restaurant and the launge are at the end of the cruise.)
3. Sightseeing during the daytime, you can view the whole beautiful scenery.
Disadvantage of Upstream:
1. Pass the view spot fast, sometimes you will forgot to take photos.
2. The price is higher.
3. More crowded than upstream.

Advantage of Upstream:
1. The speed is slower, 15-25 miles / hour, easy time to enjoy the scenery and take photos.
2. Lower price, and longer time ( one day more).
3. There are more relax time for you to understand the Chinese culture and history, and join more parties on the cruise.
Disadvantage of Upstream:
1. The cruise speed is slower, so sometimes we have to sail during night time.
2. While sailing in the night time, it might effect your sleeping on board.
You may choose our 4, 5 or 6 day getaway or sail on a 10, 14, 18 day or longer cruise. The longer lines usually combined with other major metropolitans in China. |
