【Highlight】 ★ Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.
★ In 1865, George Hearst, a wealthy miner, purchased 40,000-acres of ranchland that included the Mexican Ranchos of Piedras Blancas, San Simeon and Santa Rosa. In 1919, his only son, William Randolph Hearst, inherited the land from his mother, Phoebe Apperson Hearst. By then the ranch had grown to encompass 250,000 acres. Originally known as "Camp Hill," its wilderness offered a place for family members and friends to "rough it" on camping trips. Despite elaborate arrangements with separate sleeping and dining tents, Hearst envisioned more comfortable accommodations. His simple instructions to famed San Francisco architect Julia Morgan in 1919: "Miss Morgan, we are tired of camping out in the open at the ranch in San Simeon and I would like to build a little something". Hearst and Morgan's collaboration was destined to become one of the world's greatest showplaces. As they were planning and constructing his dream home, Hearst renamed the rocky perch from which it rose "La Cuesta Encantada" - The Enchanted Hill. By 1947, Hearst and Morgan had created an estate of 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways.
★ Disneyland - From the charm of Main Street, U.S.A to the whimsy of Mickey's Toontown, explore eight fantastic "lands" of nostalgia, color and delight. Let your imagination run free in a magic kingdom where life is a fairy tale and dreams really do come true.
★ Take a look at how many of your favorite movies had scenes filmed at Universal Studio. Journey onto the backlot and catch an inside glimpse of films and television shows currently in production. (Keep your eyes peeled for stars!) Witness real moviemaking secrets revealed in the Special Effects Stages. rehearsal at The Fast and the Furious: Extreme Close-Up. Get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how your favorite movies and TV shows are made on the 2006 Studio Tour. With OscarR-winner Whoopi Goldberg as your new virtual guide, see more sets than ever before like The War of the Worlds, Crossing Jordan, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, along with hundreds of facades on Hollywood's most famous backlot.
★ The City and County of San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the fourteenth-most populous in the United States. San Francisco is renowned for its often chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, an eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture, and its peninsular location surrounded on three sides by the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. Famous hallmarks and landmarks include the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, the cable cars, the Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower, and Chinatown.
