★ 『Honolulu, Hawaii
』is the capital as well as the most populous community of the State of Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, honolulu means "sheltered bay" or "place of shelter." The census-designated place (CDP) is located along the southeast coast of the island of Oahu. The term also refers to the District of Honolulu (see Geography below). As of July 1, 2004, the United States Census Bureau estimate for Honolulu puts the population at 377,260 and that of the city and county (essentially, the Island of Oahu) at 900,000. In Hawaii, local governments operate only at the county level, and the City & County of Honolulu encompasses all of the Island of Oahu (approximately 600 square miles).

Numerous hotels, shops, and nightlife opportunities are located along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues. World-famous Waikiki Beach attracts millions of visitors a year. Just west of Waikiki is Ala Moana Center, the world's largest open-air shopping center. A majority of the hotel rooms on Oahu are located in Waikiki.。

| ★『Kamehameha Statue』 stands prominently in front of Ali?iolani Hale in Honolulu, Hawaii. Commissioned by King David Kal?kaua it is a memorial to Kamehameha the Great, the founder of the Kingdom of Hawaii who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810. It is a replica of the original, which was lost in a shipwreck off the coast of South America. That statue was eventually salvaged and returned to Hawai?i in 1912, and now stands at the legendary king's birthplace of Kapaau in Kohala, on the island of Hawaii. A third statue was commissioned when Hawaii attained statehood and was unveiled in 1969. It now stands in the United States Capitol alongside the Father Damien Statue and is the heaviest statue, weighing 15,000 pounds. Another replica of the Kohala statue now resides on the Big Island. It was recently placed near downtown Hilo at the north end of the Wailoa State Recreation area, where it enjoys a king's view of Hilo Bay.。 |

Visit the Arizona Memorial Visitor Center, where we watch a recorded film of the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. We then board the navy launch for a trip to the memorial itself. Tour continues to Iolani Palace, Kawalahao Church, The Statue of King Kamehameha, City Hall and Punchbowl National Cemetery.。
